Mark Reed
Principal
Mark Reed is a multi-disciplined community investor. In 2005 he founded the Contact Fund, a private debt investment fund focused on expanding high-impact community-based organizations in low-income neighborhoods in New York City. Contact Fund served as the blueprint for the New York Pooled PRI Fund, which Mark co-founded with SeaChange Capital Partners. Together these funds have deployed over 80 loans totaling $43 million to leading nonprofit organizations in New York City. In 2019, Mark launched Contact Fund II, to provide financial guarantees to nonprofit-led housing development projects. The first project in partnership with Community League of the Heights, was completed in 2022.
Since 2006 Mark has been an investor and co-general partner in the development of over 2,100 units of affordable and market rate housing across 20 projects. With Alembic from 2006 to 2018, Mark delivered projects in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and New Orleans in joint ventures with community-based organizations. With Thorobird Companies, Mark capitalized a start-up Black-led development company that now has over 350 units completed and a $100 million pipeline of projects. With Hudson Companies, Mark joins in oversight of the investment activities of the Superstorm Sandy Reconstruction Fund and the Hudson Green Fund, both deploying housing development capital committed by the New York City pension system. In Bridgeport, Connecticut, through Moodna Creek LLC Mark is the lead developer of 1188 Lofts, a mixed income, transit oriented apartment complex that is catalyzing growth in the Downtown North neighborhood.
Mark is a director of a fifth-generation, family-owned timber company, Green Diamond Resource Company based in Seattle, Washington. He currently serves on the board of the US Endowment for Forests & Communities, SeaChange Capital Partners, and Corbin Hill Food Project. He is also the Chair of the Building Committee of Middle Collegiate Church. He holds an AB in Cultural Anthropology from Stanford University and an MBA in Finance from the Stern School of Management at NYU.
Richard Sin
Vice President
Richard oversees the real estate portfolio of Reed Community Capital and its subsidiaries. His background as an underwriter in both public and private sectors of affordable housing finance lead the firm’s community investment and impact goals. Prior to joining RCC, Richard’s experience includes tax credit syndication at the Richman Group and underwriting affordable and mixed-use multifamily housing projects at the New York State Housing Finance Agency. In addition to sourcing and analyzing new investments, his responsibilities include the management of Contact Fund II and its asset. Richard holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stony Brook University.
Debra Courtright
Financial Director
Debra began her working relationship with Mark Reed and Alembic Development in April of 2013 as owner of DAC Management Inc. Her role as a financial manager included maintaining various projects’ books and records, requisition reconciliations and audit processes. In August 2019, Debra became a team member with Moodna Creek and Reed Community Capital Management LLC as finance director involved in day-to-day operations and project finances. She studied at UC Irvine and graduated from Montclair University with a Bachelor of Music degree. She also audited accounting and economic courses through Montclair University and Rutgers University. She has served on various non-profit boards including New Jersey Business Owners Association as chapter president and treasurer, Beaver Lake Association as legal secretary and Delaware Valley Opera currently as a general member. Her past endeavors included owner/producer/performer of La Bella Voce Opera Ensemble for 10 years plus a Children’s Afterschool Musical Theater program. She keeps busy with her family including 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
William Grainer
Director of Asset Management and Communications
Bill manages a wide range of operations and investment activity within RCC’s real estate portfolio, working side-by-side with owner/developer partners and property management. He also oversees communications and creative projects, including internal and external multimedia and branding. Bill’s passion for NYC real estate and diverse professional background — including high-level advising for family offices, real estate investing, and residential and commercial property management — brings an interdisciplinary approach in finding new and inspiring opportunities for RCC. Bill received his Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University-New Brunswick, with postgraduate study at The New School and NYU's Schack Institute of Real Estate. He is also a licensed RE agent in New York State. In his spare time, Bill is a songwriter, music producer and longtime member of ASCAP, and he lives on the Upper East Side.
Brent Pendleton
Senior Advisor
As an experienced international real estate consultant, Brent joined the RCC team as a member of the Advisory Board and works side by side with the team on various projects and strategic planning. As president of Pendleton Associates, Brent has worked internationally for over 40 years advising prominent families who own major resort properties and land holdings. He has extensive experience in assembling top development teams and has long term family office relationships including the Rockefeller and Pritzker families in the U.S., and a number of notable families throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Brent is a member of the CCC Alliance, a peer-to-peer organization of U.S. and international family offices, and is the Chair Emeritus of Cairnwood Estate in Bryn Athyn, PA. He also continues in an advisory role to the Bryn Athyn Historic District. Brent enjoys saltwater fly fishing, skiing, tennis, boating, and resides with his wife, Dina, in Bronxville, NY.
